..., Chicago-based Allscripts, which supplies software and services to doctors' offices, expects to add jobs with an initiative to bring electronic prescribing to doctors' offices. Allscripts has started such an initiative in Tampa, Fla., where it is partnering with the University of South Florida to introduce an electronic-prescribing system to 10,000 doctors in that area. The Tampa project will create 100 jobs for "healthcare ambassadors" who train physicians in setting up electronic systems.
Allscripts wants to help doctors take advantage of various incentives in the Obama administration's economic stimulus plan, which sets aside more than $20 billion to convert doctors' paper records to electronic ones. Fewer than 20 percent of doctors nationwide use electronic records. . .
